Modified Paleo & Keto Diet
The advantage of the Paleo and the Keto diets are that they are rich in vegetables, fiber, vitamins, and minerals and do not contain refined grains and sugar. They tend to be good "weight loss diets" because they lead to more rapid weight loss than other diets. The traditional Paleo diet typically includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, root vegetables, fish, and meat and excludes foods such as dairy products, grains, sugar, and legumes. In addition to the exclusions seen on the Paleo diet, the Keto diet does not contain root vegetables and fruit (just berries). While we now understand that saturated fats are much less of a concern regarding their role in heart disease than we once thought, as far as we know today, there is still an increased correlation between high meat intake and some cancers, specifically colon and breast cancer. It is for this reason, that I suggest a modified paleo or keto diet that includes small amounts of alternate protein sources or is more seafood than meat based. I do, however, offer a fully traditional Paleo and Keto meal plan for individuals who want to pursue that route.
